This
~f the pr~perrty corner
Th0 phase 3 amendment area, proposed by the Snyder quarry opera-
tion, is located in the northwest portion of t)ie permit. boundary.
To the west of this Phase 3 amendment area is .*_he willi.ams Canvcn
drainage and land owned by Castle Concrete. The ~otential for
spillage from the Phase 3 area onto Cave of the winds t~roperty is
essentially negligible. Visual impacts of spillage into Williams
Canyon would be detrimental to the Cave of the Winds, F.owever.
Rockfall and/or spillage onto Cave cE the t9inds property Erom the
Snyder Quarry operation would have to come from the southern part
iPhases 1 and 2 areas). The above referenced report by mark
~leifner (Reference 4) includes a preventative action plan to
reduce the probability of spillage occurring; however, in the
main amendment application for the Snyder Amendment area (dated
March 3, 1989, Reference 1), Mark Heffner concludes that "It must
be recognized that totally avoiding any rocks from going into
Williams Canyon would be virtually impossible. But controlling
the spillage to a very low and unnoticeable amount is not very
difficult. Producing long and highly visible scree slopes will
not be done and any spillage which does occuc will be s~ minor as
to not be visible except to the highly trained eye."
Blasting Effects:
Concerns over the effects of blasting vibrations were expressed
by Mansfield Development. No discussion of blasting ~:ffects on
adjacent lands or nearby facilities were r_ontained in .he infor-
mation reviewed. Based on the information available at this
time, it is not known what the effects of blasting will be on the
Cave of the winds. If the Division of Mines has not already
studied the issue, it should be contacted.
If, after reviewing this report, you
additional information, please feel
signed.
have questions or desire
free to contact Cho under-
Respectfully submitted,
GEOTECHNIGCAL CONSULTANTS, INC.
sl•: oh W~ mel i Jr.
Prof ss'ona~ G ologi t
.JWH/heh
GCI Job No. 3539
