They also indicate that "The impact of. this
minino on the overall drainage basin in concluded tc be negli-
aible."
Based on our review, it appears that the primary area of concert.
in relationship to the Cave of the winds property will be the
deposition of sediment and silt which i.s washed from the ruarry
area during a large storm event. This type cf deposition could
affect or r?sult in road maintenance for the scenic drive of Cave
of the Winds in williams Canyon. Significant silt/sediment
deposition could also affect (destroy) ~~egetation in the stream
channels.
Since previous application i
review, it is not known what
proposed Phase 4) area will
Conditions in Williams Canyon.
basin and similar facilities
operation also.
formation was unavailable for our
impact the northeast corner (now
have on siltation and/or drainage
It is our hope that a siltation
are proposed for this area of
Rockfall/Spillage:
Spillage of quarried rock has occurred at the Snyder Ouarry in
the past. This spillage is documented in a report key Mark A.
Heifner dated July 11, 1989 (Reference 4). In this report it is
concluded that rock spillage occurred probably in late 1987 or.
early 1988, from the Phase 1 area of the Snyder puatry. This
report concludes that it is estimated that about 100 to 7.00 tons
of rock was spilled from the quarry by a bulldozer. One rock,
which is estimated by Mark Heifner to weigh between 5 and 10
tons, is reported to be located about 50 feet on the Cage of the
Winds property. All of the other rocks •and resulting damage to
the slope below the Phase 1 area of the puatry are reported to be
within Castle Concrete property. Review of the map of the spill-
age and location of isolated rocks, prepared by Mark Heifner,
indicates that the damaged slope has been mapped within 20 feet
of the Cave of the Winds property.
It i5 GCI's understanding tF.at the west permit boundary property
lines in the area of the spill were located by inspection of
aerial photographs and topographic maps. It i.s not known whether
the property corner which exists along the west permit boundary
was located and used to plot the slope damage and spillage. If
this property corner was not staked and located, then a).1
information was plotted by review of aerial photographs and
:h'J ..,w::2-~. _-v ' CV4J ! L".~11I '-!7i ~.
