Box 350 <br />~ Las Animas, Colorado 81054 <br />i <br />Dear Mr. Burkhalter: <br />I examined the proposed site in the East 1/Z of the <br />Northeast 1/4 of the Northwest 1/4 of Section 24, Township <br />22 South, Range 52 West on August 22, 1994. The Reclamation <br />plan for this site is as follows: <br />Situation: This site is a native rangeland and classified <br />as a Gravel Breaks range site; cattle are grazing at this <br />time. The site is overgrazed and needs some type of <br />management applied to better the condition of the rangeland, <br />fencing mioht be the tool to use to accomplish this. <br />Soils: This site consists of mostly Cascajo soils and <br />gravelly land soil symbol Ca. The Gravel Breaks are <br />strongly sloping soils that are shallow over limy, very <br />sandy, gravelly outvrash with low water holding capacity. <br />Land capability class is VIIs-4. <br />Veaetatien_ The potential plant community on this site is <br />SG-90~ presses, 5-10 `s ?orbes, ar.d 5-10¢ shrubs air-dry <br />;velgh t. laRtS presently OrOWlrig include blue grams, $and <br />drop sceci, '_"'_nC T:L';?ly, L:GCh1a, Scarlet Olobe mallO;a, red <br />thre•aa;:~-:, ',uc•~a, =un'_lo;•:er, and Russian thistle. <br />Rec:aT.ation: It £hGL1G Ue noted .that once topsoil is <br />remG': ed ini`~iat ly, all disturbed areas must be reclaimed <br />•.:hether ~cu disturb the area or not. <br />Site p~-e^aration: Reclamation of the pit should be made by <br />smoothing all banks to no more than 2:1 slopes and should be <br />flatter where feasible and practicable. The topography <br />should :;e Wade smcoth ~::it71 no spoil piles pit present. <br />Toosoilina: lop=oil should be spread uniformly over any <br />disturbed a:'ea to a packed depth of 6". This should be <br />increas<_d to 8-10" over exposed bedrock.
