• Exhibit G •
5. Prevention and mitigation actions:
As discussed above, there will be a buffer averaging 150 feet wide to keep mining
activities away from the creek itself. Storm water pollution prevention and management
actions, including erosion and sedimentation control, will be implemented as required
by the Colorado Discharge Permit System storm water general permit for which
coverage has been obtained for this site.
6. Project water requirements:
Water use for the extraction and processing of sand and gravel from Spotted Burro is
expected to be very low. Revegetation and protective vegetation of stockpiles, etc., is
based on use of natural precipitation and no irrigation is proposed. One of the factors
considered in scheduling activities on site (extraction, processing, and hauling) will be
the chances of precipitation and good soil moisture conditions to reduce dust and the
need to use additional water for dust control. Use of dust control chemicals will also
reduce water use on site. If materials are washed on site, water will be recycled to
reduce water use and discharges, as well as protect water quality.
For evaluation purposes, based on the assumptions listed below, the estimated
maximum protect water
Activity
Dust control of roads
rements ror the
eP r year
1.18 0.1 in/day,
60 days
0.98 0.1 in/day,
tsurro rlt are:
Flow Remarks
al/da
6,000 2.2 acres max
Dust control of plant area
Dust control of pit area
Washing of materials
Total water required
Water available
30 days
0.92 0.1 in/day,
12 days
9.29 30 days
As
received
11,000 3.9 acres max
25,000 9.2 acres max
100,000 evaporative loss
25% of
This is based on the following "greatest-use" assumptions:
• 60,000 tons per year produced.
