Mr. Joseph Dudash
May 28, 1993
Pages
Basin Resources is requesting an extension of the abatement
deadline for the above violations to June 11, 1993. The reason for
this extension request is due to a number of factors which include
the following:
1. Extremely wet weather over the past 60 days has prevented
earth work for many of the ditches and culverts. This weather has
also necessitated duplication of work which was conducted and than
needed to be reworked (e.g. cleaning of ditches).
2. Many of the items which need to be completed are extensive
activities and require significant effort and or specific
equipment. As these resources have been committed on active
projects which must be conducted under the NOVs, other NOV projects
are waiting to be completed.
3. The volume of work necessary to abate these NOVs is extensive
and has surpassed the ability of Basin's resources. As a result,
contractors have been hired to complete the work to the extent
possible. That is, there are only a few contractors in the area
which have the necessary insurance, equipment and experience to
complete the work. Basin is committed to utilize all of its
resources and qualified contractors to complete the abatement
activities as soon as possible.
4. One of Basin's key engineering staff left the operation in mid
May 1993 and is no longer available to complete the activities
which were assigned to him.
Please contact me if you have questions or need additional
information concerning our request for extension of these NOVs. We
appreciate your consideration and cooperation.
Sinker ly, , ,
i-
R.onald G. Thomp n.
Senior Mining gineer
