M93040GE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of the geotechnical
engineering study we conducted for the existing portal cut slope at
the west portal of the Orchard Vallev Mine. The stud was
conducted at the ceauest of Mr. Karl Koehler, Cyprus Mine.
The conclusions, suggestions and recommendations presented in
this report are based on the data gathered during our site and
laboratorv studv and on our experience with similar soil
conditions. Factual data gathered during the field and laboratory
work are summarized in Appendix A.
1.1 Scope o` Services
Our services included geotechnical engineering field and
laboratory studies, and analysis and report preparation for the
proposed site. The scope of our services is outlined below.
- The field study consisted of observing the conditions of and
sampling the soils exposed or. the surface of the south s1_one
of the west portal area.
- The laboratory study included tests of the soil samples
obtained during the field study to help assess the strength
potential of the soils tested.
- This report presents our geotechnical engineering
suggestions; considerations and recommendations concerning
the theoretical stability of the slope. Our stability
analysis was for the portion of the slope above the bench.
~Lambcrt anD ~,ssociare,~
COUSUt iiRG GEOiEC~RiUi ERGiREERS weO
u•~ERU~ rESiiRG
