all the previous bond release findings to determine whether DMG made any
decisions specifically about these flumes. Dave said that absent any such
specific mention of the flumes in the bond release decision documents, our
goal should be to see that the flume foundations are removed.
Dave said that once we determine that these flumes should be removed, we
should meet with the owners of the land where these flume foundations are
located, and discuss our thoughts. Dave indicated that we should also avoid
directing MINREC to create any new significant disturbances, such as
access roads. Dave said that if the landowners are concerned about the
degree of surface disturbance that could be associated with the removal of
the foundations, and would rather the structures stay as they are, we should
respect those wishes, and not appear heavy-handed.
Dave and I also discussed contacting the US Army Corps of Engineers in
Grand Junction to determine what, if any, approvals MINREC may need to
obtain to either remove these structures or to leave them in place.
Finally, MINREC should remove all the exposed pieces of steel re-bar from
these flume foundations, as well as from the remnant concrete box culvert
foundation situated in North Thompson Creek, as soon as possible, to reduce
the human health and safety hazards. Please ask Jim Stover to see to this.
