• The vegetation cover value for the Center Ridge azea was 77.6%. Undesirable plant
species contributed 0.8% to the cover value. Appendix C provides the vegetation
sampling data collected during July, 1997. The vegetation sampling was performed
in accordance with the Guideline Reeazding Selected Coal Mine Bond Release Issues,
CDMG (April 18, 1995).
South-of--Shop -South-of--Shop was mined and initially reclaimed under the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Act (CMLRA, effective July 1,1976) Regulations (effective
May, 1977). This azea was covered under the Life-of--Mine bond, Surety Bond No.
U80 61 57-28. The entire area had achieved bond release for Phase I, II, and a partial
release for Phase III. A gully along the lower portion of the mine area required
remedial action prior to complete Phase III bond release.
During 1984, a portion of the azea experienced a land slide. As a result, 10.5 acres
were reinitialized under full bond to enswe completion of the required remediation.
• Final remedial activity was completed in 1988. Remedial activities included topsoil
salvage along the uppermost scarp, regrading of the uppermost scarp to a more stable
slope, redistributing the salvaged topsoil along the regraded slope and seeding the
redistwbed area with the seed mix approved at that time. Since the grading activities
associated with this azea were remedial in nature and the area consisted of pre-
SMCRA lands, the resulting land form was mutually agreed to by P&M and the
CDMG as appropriate for the post-mining land use. Therefore, no proposed nor
actual slope profiles or cross-sections aze provided in this submittal.
One concentrated flow featwe exists on the azea approximately one-third of the
distance across the azea from the northern side. This featwe has been monitored for
stability since the spring of 1992. A total of five tansects were established for
monitoring purposes. Transects 1, 2, 3, and 4 were within the boundaries of the
remedial action area while Transects 5 was outside and downslope of the remedial
• action azea. Results of the monitoring efforts aze provided in Appendix D. A review
