Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Zachry
324 31 ll2 Road
Grand Junction, CO 81503
April 25, 1992
To the Members of the Planning Commission:
We, Nellie and Abner Zachry, owners of a ten-acre property at the above address, do wholeheartedly
protest the expansion of the grave! pit operation known as "DeYries Gravel Pit" and or " 31 Road Gravel Pit"
and proposed by the Parkerson Construction Co.
Our vehement objections are:
1. We don't think a gravel pit should be placed near two existing orchards.
2. We feel that the type of activity proposed will depreciate both the quality of our
neighborhood and the values of our property.
3. We detest and deplore the necessity to fend the right to have a quiet existence without
sustained noise and air pollution which damages growing and planned vegetation.
4. We resent the Fact that we bought our property when it was caned AFT and people keep
trying to get this caning designation changed and expanded. To edify and clarify for future
proposal presenters,
WE DO NOT WANT A COlVIlVIERCIAL
VENTURE WHICH WILL DISRUP'T' OUR QUIET
NEIGHBORHOOD TO EXPAND THEIR
OPERATION.
5. As taxpayers, wfiy are our taxes spent to maintain C Road for truck traffic since it was never
designed to handle the heavy wck traffic. The number of times these trucks go back and
forth puts an unneeded burden on a road built for automobiles.
6. It has been proposed by the developers that they reclaim the area after the gravel has been
removed. These reclamation plans are to plant the slopes in native grrsses (WEEDS) which
should spread to adjoining property "like wildfire". These rerlamation plans have not been
proved and the surrounding property owners have not been able to view any successful
reclamation projects of this type.
Si~nce/r~ely,f~/J~~/ ~} ~~
Nellie L. Zachry U
