The property is bounded on the north by a fence line, east by a portion of an old
railroad grade and a fence line, south by a fence line, and west by a fence line. (General site
location map)
The most significant topographic feature neaz the proposed extension site is the South Platte
River that is located approximately 0.75 miles east of the site. The NCC #1 extension project
slopes very gently to the northeast and is located on the primary alluvial terrace of the South
Platte River. Little Dry Creek skirts the west boundary of the site and flows across the
northwest corner of the project site. An old railroad grade forms a portion of the east
boundazy of the site and bisects the two southern pazcels on the property.
Based on a field investigation conducted by Savage and Savage on July 7, 2004 and current
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) interim survey guidelines dated April 27, 2004 we
believe this site is exempt from the necessity to conduct Preble's trapping and has very low
potential to hazbor individuals or a population of Zapus hudsonius preblei for the following
reasons.

68
