Company (WECC) is hereby requesting a minor revision to the
Mt. Gunnison Permit C-007-80, issued by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
Board in July 1981. The revision is being proposed to allow for the
drilling of -between 4 and 8 water-monitoring wells in Section 21, T13S,
R90W, 6th P. M. These water-monitoring wells will be used to record changes
in water quality and quantity which may result from subsidence effects
brought about by retreat mining in the subsidence test panel -described in
the Application to Revise the Mining Reclamation Plan For the Mt. Gunnison
No. 1 Underground Mine. This application proposed to expand the current
five-year permit area by 320 acres submitted in November 1984.
As you know, two water-monitoring wells, SOM-38-H1 and H2 were installed in
1979 over the location of the subsidence test panel. Adequate collection of
data has been difficult at times due to apparent obstructions in the wells.
Thus, WECC proposes to drill another water-monitoring well, SOM-38-H3 within
50 feet of the existing wells in the location shown on the attached map.
This hole will be a twin of the existing water-monitoring wells, drilled to
a depth of 1000 feet to the top of the F-seam. Water quality and quantity
anaylses will be made on the same schedule as for SOM-38-H1 and H2. That
is, the well will be monitored monthly for water level and semi-annually for
water quality.
In addition, to further monitor surface water impacts for our secondary
recovery operation .in the subsidence test panel, WECC proposes to drill
between three and seven shallow water-monitoring wells. These wells will be
drilled to a depth between 50 feet and 100 feet. They too will be located
in Section 21, R90W, T13S, 6th P.M. on U.S. National Forest land and within
the current Mt. Gunnison five-year permit area. The wells will be randomly
spaced in the location shown on the attached map.
The drill holes will be cased with 4 inch perforated PVC pipe, gravel-packed
and the surface sealed with bentonite clay.
ANACONDA M~nenl, Cpmpmy i, , Dnblpn pl Alb nl:c eic~lylECOmpm,
AMCO-6D00-A ~e~e~l
