State Reg.
C the regraded spoil surface. Where acid spoil (pH <5 and ABP
<-5) is encountered at the regraded spoil surface, a selectively
handled suitable spoil topdressing or lime application will be
required.
The elevated nitrate concentrations that occur in samples from
the 1981 cores (2034E, 2613E, 2614E) are apparently
nonrepresentative. These cores were very wet when sampled and
were not dried before shipment to the laboratory. Also,
contamination from drilling additives may have occurred during
drilling. Therefore, the nitrate concentrations may be
atypically high due to sampling error.
No revegetation or ground water contamination problems are
anticipated from nitrate. Both the premine ground water
monitoring data (WA-0043 and WA-0044) and the postmine spring
(BP-0001) and pond data (DA-0004) indicate that N03-N values
are suitable (<10 mg/1} in the vicinity of Sites 2034E, 2613E,
and 2614E (see Exhibit 7-2, Hydrology Monitoring Site Location
Map). Postmine spoil water quality will continue to be
monitored for N03-N at Sites BP-0001 and DA-0004. Spoil
samples will also continue to be collected and analyzed for
N03- and NH4-N from representative vegetation transect
locations in the Wadge mining area.

6-153a Revised 10/1/86
