Addendum to Geotechnical Data Report
Bowie Resources, limited
July 2002
Section 1 -Introduction
1.1 Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of this Addendum Report is to present additional geotechnical information that
was collected after the Geotechnical Data Report, Bruce Park Dam, Delta County, Colorado
was issued in Apri] 2001 (GEI, 2001). Analyses and interpretations of the information
collected will be provided in a separate document. The location of Bruce Park Dam is shown
on Figure 1.
The objectives of the geotechnical field investigation and laboratory testing documented in
this Addendum Report were to collect site-specific geotechnical and groundwater
information needed to evaluate an existing landslide and to identify if organic material is
present at a predetermined location in the right side {looking downstream) of the upstream
slope of the main dam.
1.2 Scope of Work
GEI performed the following scope of work for this project:
1. Developed and observed completion of a subsurface investigation program, which
included soil and bedrock borings, field testing, and installation ofopen-standpipe
piezometers and cable inclinometers
2. Performed laboratory tests on selected soil samples collected during the subsurface
investigations
3. Prepazed this Addendum Geotechnical Data Report
1.3 Background
Bowie Resources, Ltd. retained GEI Consultants, Inc. in November 2000, to develop a
geotechnical exploration program to: a) collect data for use in evaluating potential impacts to
Bruce Park Dam from proposed underground coal mining operations, and b) evaluate the
feasibility of raising the crest elevation of the dam 3 to 6 feet to increase reservoir storage
. volume. The original program included drilling seven borings in the main dam and saddle
dam and is summarized in the Geotechnical Data Report, Bruce Park Dam (GEI, 2001).
GEI COItsllltantS, In C. ~ 9929201-0]-93 AOtlenom Geotechnical Getz Rpt
