Division Concern:
m~
6. It would be desirable to include more current chemical analyses for
the water from wells TC-1, TC-3, and TC-2, as well as completion data
for well TC-2. It is helpful for the Division to be able to relate
water character with associated aquifers. Awareness of the magnitude
of any natural variations in ground water quality that are unrelated
to mining also allows better evaluation of any mining related
variations.
Response-
Colowyo does not currently use either TC-1 or TC-3. TC-2 was not
drilled. To sample TC-1 or TC-3 would require significant effort and
expense at this time. However, for your information an analysis for a
March 11, 1982 sample of TC-3 is enclosed. Colowyo feels that
additional data would only serve to provide additional documentation
on the wel l documented fact that there i s a high variation i n water
quality and low storage and transmissivity values for the Williams
Fork and Iles Formations of the Mesa Verde group.
Division Concern:
7. On page 2.04.7-36, numerous sampling sites are listed from the
baseline study. Colowyo must properly reference these sites on Map 10
or in another appropriate format. In addition, review of Table 7
indicates that the estimate of the Q7,10 for Good Spring Creek is
high. Colowyo should recalculate the Q7 ,10 using actual data
collected to date, and compare this to the original estimate. The
Division will supply a diskette with a program from the Colorado
Department of Health to calculate Q7 ,10 if requested.
Response•
The sampling sites listed on page 2.04.7-37 are shown on Map 32 -
Surface Water and Groundwater Quantity and Quality Sample Sites By
Investigation, near Colowyo Mine. Four sample sites were not included
(, since there were no plots of sites which were mined through when the
~~,.t~ operation began. The sites without locations are 52, 53, 61 and 65.
~-\- Colowyo does not monitor stream flow on a continuous basis on
Goodspring Creek. Colowyo is required to measure flow concurrent with
the monthly and quarterly surface water monitoring program, approved
by the Division. Therefore, Colowyo does not have an adequate data
base to recalculate flow for a seven day, ten ,year low flow period.
-4-
