The maximum exposed area prior to reclamation would be between 3 and 4 acres.
This amount of working area is needed in order to extract the r« k. While the South
Peak is being mined the maximum extent of disturbance would be experienced, but as
soon as that area is finished and while the mining is being completed to the north,
the area of reclamation implementation would accelerate rapidly. Please keep in
mind that this amendment area is quite small and highly confined, plus most of the
r« k is contained in only about 1/2 of the entire amendment. This means that most
of the r« k will be removed from an area which is smaller than the average city
bl« k. lY~til nearly all of that area is completed it is simply impossible to
implement any reclamation without endangering the reclamation itself.
ITQ1 4 - You have stated that the largest portion of Phase III will be mined from
south to north. Will benching «cur in a general west to east direction, an east to
west direction, or a general upslope direction.
RE5PWSE: Benching will not «cur immediately under the South Peak. That
area will be very gently sloped to the south and southeast. Benches an the west
side of the remains of the South Peak will face east to northeast and will be
linearly directed along a north-south line. Benches to the north of the gently
sloped area under the existing South Peak will face south and will have a general
west~ast linear orientation. Bench development will follow the direction of
mining.
ITEM 5 - Will a bench section be mined completely across the Phase III area before
pr«eeding to the next higher bench or will there be several levels of benching
«curring at the same time?
f~ONSE: This all depends upon the total depth of mining at a particular
1«ation. If the depth of mining is approximately equal to the planned final wall
height then only one or maybe two benches would be created at a time. But if the
total depth of mining is greater than the final wall height//several benches must be
worked at a time in order to satisfy safety requirements. ~bwever, in those
instances where several benches are worked at a time~ance the final bench pattern is
created, virtually all of that area can be reclaimed at once.
ITEM 6 _ If mining from the north end southward does not «cur, will the northern
drainage crossing still be necessary? If so, why?
RESPUV5E: hider the revised plan, where the horseshoe shaped 2.4 acres have
been removed from the extreme north End of the amendment, it is unlikely that a
north crossing would ever be needed. I-bwever, we wish to keep that in the plan
because it is possible that equipment access to the north end of the mining area
might still be needed in order to avoid crossing land under reclamation on the south
end of the amendment. If that did came to pass then the south crossing would
probably be abandoned and reclaimed when the north crossing is established, as there
would be no need to have a south crossing.
SNYDER IOW PhETIDP'IIJT ADEfaUACY ~QJSES MRY 72, 1989 PAID 2
