Tezak Inc, is making a request to more than double the amount of land to be mined. The infractions he has already made against the land and against the citizens of Canon City lead me to believe that he would only continue to abuse the added power given to him. The infractions include operating beyond the allowed hours, over- loading the trucks, no covers over the cargo, and excessive surface blasting. We also know the Mr. Tezak has carried refuse to the quarry, including toxic chemicals such a paint and paint thinner. I have talked to former employees of his that have quit because they didn't Like the lack of ethics. The scenic area above Tunnel Drive, the majestic entrance to the Roy31 Gorge, is being torn down by what seems to be a company with little respect for the land and it's residents. Tunnel Drive isn't the only area concerned with the destruction. Across the river is Riverside Dr., Grape Creek, and other roads in which the homeowners are being adversely affected. They are constanly bothered by the noise, which seems to intensify and echo off the rock walls. They are sometimes awakened by the noise of activity in the m~ddlg of the night! The blasting has increased. I have recorded blasts at 5:`0 A.M., 6:00 P. M., and on weekends. One blast was so severe that it knocked down a neighbor's wall, cracked a Riverside resident's picture window, and nearly caused another Riverside resident to be thrown from her horse. This occured in the evening hours. We have fought to keep our neighborhood residentially zonEd. I dontt,believe their is even a buffer zone between us and the quarry. I sincerely appreciate your time and concern regarding o~s• pleas toward saving our much beloved Tunnel Drive area from becoming an "industrial wasteland: I hope you can see a future for this area as we do, with recreational usage and preservation of our resources.
