Vegetation on the upper terrace is predominantly mesic ruderal weedy
species, whereas vegetation within the primary alluvial terrace (8-10 feet lower) contains
wet meadow species. That said, slight elevational differences within the topography of
the primary terrace yield significant differences in species composition, with hydrophytic
species only present within microtopographic swales or depressions. Where the
topography is slightly elevated, the ruderal species prevail.
Literature Cited
United States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service. 1980.
