May 13 04 05:17p Hruce D. Smith (9701 242-0270 p.3
May 13, 2004
7. A reconnaissance of springs and seeps adjacent to or down gradient of the portal seal will be
conducted. Any observed springs or seeps will be monitored weekly for flow conditions. A
dye tracer (fluoroscene) will be injected into the mine pool area before head build-up occurs.
The intent of the tracer is to potentially identify mine pool water that may be hydraulically
connected tocross-gradient ordown-gradient springs or seeps.
a. As verbally agreed, the tracer injection wil(not be implemented in the Spring of 2004.
Because of drought conditions at the miue site, W WL intends to use any mine pool
water that accumulates of sufficient head to support revegetation efforts at the mine
site. W WL will land apply any mine water in accordance with CDPHS Hiles and
regulations.
b. Pending the resorts of a background study of spring water quality in the area of the
Logan Wash Mine, W WL will inject the tracer prior to mine pool build-up in April
2005.
a Should the spring water quality study support inactivation of the CDPS permit, W WL
will pursue permit inactivation with the goal of permanently releasing mine water
through the discharge pipe.
8. As an alternative to number 7 above, DMG has proposed (letter of April 15s; 2004) the option
that W WL demonstrate that mine pool water quality meets CDPS permit requirements. W WL
may decide to sample and analyze mine pool water after substantial head build-up in the mine
to confirm water quality meets or exceeds the CDPS permit requiremems. The potential
chemical interference of any injected tracer will be considered in evaluating this option.
9. As an aternatve to number 7 or 8 above, W WL rosy elect to permanently pipe Research Mine
pool water to Outfa11001 at the mine site. This scenario has been verbally approved by
CDPHE.
W Wl. will keep DMG informed regarding implementation ofItems 7, 8, and 9 one ofthe alternatives
mentioned above. As stated in my letter of Apri116i°, W WI. has implememed the head monitoring
program at the Research Mine portal aad will continue to monitor the head on a weekly basis through
the extension period and as specified in Item 2 above.
Ifyou have any questions or comments, please contact me at 970-242-0170.
Sincerely,

Bruce D. swim
Principal Hydrogeologist
ce: Franklin Miller, Glenn Springs Holdings, Inc.
Project File
