S. S. Shuey
Adequacy Review Responses
July 23, 1992
Page 2
recovery because they underlie the area of the Hawksnest
Mine that is assumed to be flooded. If future monitoring
indicates that the area above these panels is not
flooded, then recovery from these panels may be
increased.
Four exploratory NX, nominal 3-inch outside diameter,
holes WSC DH 5, 6, 7 and 8, were apparently drilled
downward from the Hawksnest Mine E-Seam workings through
the B-Seam. Drill holes 5, 6 & 7 are located in the
"known to be dry area". Drill hole 8 is located in the
mine plan area for years 5 - 10 so its is not considered
an issue at this time.
14d) An underground sump has been constructed in the B-Seam as
shown on Map 5-007-B. The sump has a capacity of about
3 acre-feet. The pump intake will be located at the last
crosscut to the east that enters the sump. At a flow
rate of 425 gpm the sump would have a residence time of
about 38 hours. Somerset has investigated the use of a
flocculent manufactured by NALCO (EN-ACT 7883) but is
uncertain at this time if a flocculent will be required.
As of this date, the water being discharged from the mine
is not a problem with regard to suspended solids. The
underground sump in the B-Seam is not in use at this
time.
14e) No response required.
14f - g) See 14d.
15a - d) Somerset has chosen drill hole WSC DH12 to monitor the
water level in the Hawksnest Mine. This hole was added
to the monitoring schedule on page 2.05-46iii.
15e) See 14a - c.
15f) No response required.
16) - 18) No response required.
19) The tributary to Thompson Creek is addressed on revised
page 2.05-47.
20) Pages 2.04-16i, 2.04-39iv, 2.04-39v, 2.04-40, 2.04-52,
2.04-53i and 2.04-46iv were revised to change the
description of Bear, Sanborn and Elk Creeks from
ephemeral to intermittent.
