Although soil,
slope and aspect will be the same as the larger flat area, more
dryness and possibly a little more wind exposure will be impor-
' tant factors to consider in revegetation. As a result, this area
will develop somewhat more slowly than the more level area of the
' main part of the lands to be reclaimed.
Grasses. The following seed mixture should be seeded into
1 all the soils where revegetation will occur. The same mixture
1 should be applied to all areas because the environments will not
basically differ enough to warrant different mixtures. Because
' of the highly rocky nature of the soil materials, the mixture is
designed to be broadcast and takes into account the amount of
area that will probably be covered with rock in each square foot
' and, therefore, will produce no growth. If, after replacing the
topsoil, it is found that the areas are not nearly as rocky as
presently anticipated, then the mixture may be reduced by one-
third (not to one-third) and drilled. Standard farmland drills
' should not be used unless the soil is essentially without rocks.
The disks and other parts may be severely damaged. A rangeland
drill should be used if any drilling is attempted as these
machines are designed to withstand the severe abuse that occurs
in drilling rocky soils.
' Seeding should be done between mid-tfarch and mid-April.
' Autumn seeding is not recommended as failure is very likely to

15
