Danielson <br />State Engineer <br />1313 Sherman Street - Aoom 818 <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br />RE: Application for Temporary Substitute Water Supply Plan for <br />Weld County Colorado Hokestra Pit; Permit No. M-80-149 <br />Dear Dr. Danielson: <br />The purpose of this letter is to request approval of a substitute <br />water supply plan pursuant to Section 37-80-120 (2) C.R.S. on <br />behalf of the Weld County Commissioners for their Hokestra Pit. <br />A. INTRODUCTION <br />The Hokestra Gravel Pit is owned and operated by Weld County. <br />The operation began in 1980 and will be active for 5 to 7 more <br />years. The gravel pit is located along the Saint Vrain Creek. <br />It lies to the south of the river and is approximately one half <br />mile east of Interstate 25 (See Figure No. 1) <br />The mine site is made up of three different parcels as delineated <br />on the enclosed map. The permit area that lies south of the Last <br />Chance Ditch is owned by Weld County. The area that lies to the <br />north of the Last Chance Ditch is divided into two tracts. The <br />west tract was reclaimed and sold in 1989. The east tract is not <br />owned by Weld County but Weld County has obtained the mining <br />rights on the property. <br />Credit for consumptive use has been taken..for the: portion of the <br />mining site which is historically wetlands type: soils and lies <br />within the boundaries of the existing lakes. In. addition, credit <br />is taken for lake areas which existed prior to 1981.
