BLM East Gmvel Pit
Mining Method to be Employed:
Exhibit D
Mining Plan
The BLM East Gravel Pit was fast entered by the County in July 1974, to provide a source of sand and
gravel for the county road construction and maintenance within the vicinity of the pit.
The maximum disturbed area of the pit shall be approximately 30 acres, with an excavation depth to be
approximately 20' at a maximum. The overburden stockpile at present prior to conversion is
approximately 9,000 yds, with an expected overall stockpile at the end of mining to be 41,300 yds. The
topsoil stockpile at present is approximately 3,300 yds. With and expected overall stockpile a[ the end of
mining to be 19,500 yds. Approximately 4,700 yds will be hauled in to complete reclamation.
As indicated on the attached plans, it is proposed to continue the extinction of sand and gravel deposits in a
northeasterly direction. Topsoil and overburden materials will be stockpiled in the mined out pit azea as
indicated. L`deemed necessary by BLM personnel, Jackson County will stabilize the topsoil stockpile with
suitable vegetation.
Ginvel deposits will be excavated to maximum depth of 20 feet utilizing Dozers and/or frontcnd loaders
and side slopes of the pit will be maintained at 3 or 4:1. Operations and stockpiled material will be
restricted from the edge or rim of the mesa top as to provide a natural screening of the pit. I[ is estimated
that approximately 25,000 cubic yazds of sand and gravel materials will be removed annually during the
next ten{10) years.
Access to the proposed BLM East Gravel I'it will be afforded by an existing constructed road from Jackson
County Road # 12D. It is not anticipated that any additional road constmction will be required for this
county opeintion.
This site will be kept free of all trash, waste material, garbage, and rubbish at all times. All refuse will be
disposed of in the Jackson County Sanitary Landfill.
Jackson County will carry on all operations in a workmanlike manner, having due regard for [he safety of
employees; and shall safeguard with fences, barriers, fills, covers, or other effective devices, pits, cuts, and
other excavations which otherwise would unduly imperil the life, safety or property of other persons.
Surface or ground water is not anticipated to create any problem during opeintions
A steel gate with warning signs will be placed at the entrance to the pit to restrict access to unauthorized
personnel. The pit will be patrolled on a regulaz basis to inspect for damage and to remove litter and illegal
dumping. Jackson County Weed Control will control all noxious weeds. No inopeinble equipment or
equipment not related [o the mining operation will be stored at the site.
