PARTI
Page 15
Permit No. COG-St>D000
E. FOOTNOTES -APPLICABLE TO PRECEDING PAGES
g/ When the measurement frequency indicated is quarterly, the samples shall be collected during March, June, September
and December, if a continual discharge oca.urs. If the discharge is intermittent, then samples shall be collected during
the period That discharge occtus. If the pcrmittee, using the approved emlytical methods, monitors any parameter
more frequently than required by this permit, then the results of such monitoring shall be included in the calculation
and reporting of the values required in the Discharge Monitoring Report Form or other forms as required by the
Division. Such increased frequency shall also be indicated.
h/ Defuritions of Sample Type
1. A 'compttsile' sample, for monitoring requirements, is a minimum of four (4) grab samples collected at equally
spaced two (2) hour intervals end proportioned according to Oow.
2. A 'grab" sample, for monitoring requirements, is a single 'dip and take' sample.
3. An 'instantaneous' measurement, Cor monitoring requiretnwta, is • single reading, observation, or
measurement performed oo site.
4. A 'continuous' measurement, for flow monitoring requiremrnta, is a measurement obtained from an automatic
recording device which continually treasures flow.
5. A 'visual' observation, for oil and grease monitoring requiretneats, is observing the discharge to check for the
presence of a visible sheen or floating oil.
6. An 'insilu' measurement, for monitoring requirements, is defined os a single reading, observation or
measurement taken in the field at the point of discharge.
7. A '24 hour composite' sample is a combination of at least eight (B) sample aliquots of at least 100 milliliters,
collected at equally spaced intervals during the operating hours of a facility over a twenty-four (24) hour period.
For volatile pollutants, aliquots must be combined in the laboratory immediately before analysis. The composite
must F>L (low proportional; either the time interval between each aliquot or the volume of each aliquot must be
proportional to either the wastewater or effluent flow at dte time of sampling or the total wastewater or effluent
^ow since the collation of the previous aliquot. Aliquots may be coBatod manually or automatically.
i/ In the event an oil sheen or Floating oil is observed, a grab sample shall be collated, analyzed, and repotted on We
appropriate DMR or annual report. In addition, corrective action shall be mkw immediately to mitigate the discharge
of oil and grease. A description of the corrective action taken should be included with the DMR or annual report.
j/ Where, baste on a minimum of 5 samples, the permittee dentoasttates to the satisfaction of the Water Quality Control
Division that the level of total dissolved solids (TDS) in the effluent can be calculated based upon the level of elatrical
conductivity, the permittee may measure and report TDS in terms of tlatrical conductivity.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Representative Samolin2
Samples and measurements taken as required herein shall be representative of the volume and nature of the monitored
discharge. All samples shall be taken at the monitoring points spaified in Wis permit end, unless otherwise spaified,
before We effluent joins or is diluted by any other westestream, body of water, or substance. Moniwimg points shall
not 6e changed without notification to and approval by the Division.
