PHILLIPS MINING, GEOTECHNICAL 8 GROUTING, INC.
and allow it to be brushed and washed off later, to expose the aggregate to which the
concrete, at the resumption of pouring, can bond. The downstream vertical face of the
upstream concrete pour must also be treated in a similaz manner (by coating the inside face
of the downstream form with the equivalent retarder for forms) to allow the subsequent
bonding of the next pour to this face.
The concrete must be placed in the forms using a suitable concrete pump. During the
placement, the concrete must be pumped through pipes placed at suitable locations in the
forms to ensure that it is not dropped more than 6 to 7 feet and that it is reasonably evenly
distributed over the complete pour plan azea. Concrete placement pipe(s) and air bleeder
pipe(s) must be located in the forms and up into the back of the drift, amongst the
cribbing, so that efficient dispersal of the concrete is achieved and the drift is filled up to
the back as completely as possible. This will require at least 2 to 3 placement pipes in
each pour.
As noted above, grouting will be required around the plug, especially on the interface
between the concrete and rock. Grouting will be performed around each individual
section of the plug. This will commence four weeks after the completion of each concrete
pour. In addition, some grouting of the rock, for a few feet around the plug, will probably
also be required.
5. PLUG CONCRETE REQUIItEMENTS
The concrete mix design and the achievement of the required concrete properties and the
testing thereof, is the responsibility of the contractor. As in all concrete construction, care
must be taken to provide the correct blend of materials in the concrete for the plug, not
Page 5
