Reclamation Permit M-77-300 7 September, 2001
Notice of Intent to Backfill Page 2 of 3
B. Approximate volumes of backfill material:
The following materials are included in the proposed backfilling activity. These materials
are listed by backfill area. Note that all demolition debris used as backfill materials will
be generated within the permitted boundary.
1. Backfill Area #1
a. Approximately 1,000 cubic yards of inert concrete rubble and structural steel
from the demolition of surface buildings at the Schwartzwalder Mine.
b. Approximately 20,000 cubic yards of inert dirt and rock fill from within the
permit area and imported from sources outside of the permitted area.
2. Backfill Area #2
a. Approximately 750 cubic yards of non-toxic rubbish and other debris from the
demolition of surface buildings at the Schwartzwalder Mine. This rubbish and
debris will consist primarily of construction materials and interior furnishings
generated during the demolition of the office building at the Schwartzwalder
Mine site. The debris will contain approximately 25%wood and other non-toxic
putrescible materials,by volume, with the remainder consisting of inert concrete
and metal. This debris was generated during the demolition of the pre-
fabricated concrete office building located within the boundaries of the area
identified as Backfill Area #2. The office building was built into the surrounding
hill slope and the demolition debris from the office will be pushed into the void
in the hillside left by the removal of the building. The construction materials/
office debris will be placed by bulldozer into the void and compacted in
alternating layers with concrete rubble and local dirt and rock fill excavated
during the building demolition. Materials backfilled in this area will be above
the water table.
b. Approximately 2,500 cubic yards of inert dirt and rock fill will be placed by
bulldozer and compacted over the top of the demolition debris fill identified in
2.a., above.
3. Backfill Area #3
a. Approximately 30,000 yards of inert dirt and rock fill with the potential addition
of some inert concrete and structural steel rubble from within the permit area
and imported from sources outside of the permitted area.
C. Signed affidavit certifying that the backfilled materials are non-toxic:
Certification that the fill material is non-toxic is provided at the conclusion of Items A
through F of this Notice.
