This may be true <br />especially if only grasses are used, however, some irrigated hay <br />species such as alfalfa can easily root to depths of 6 feet or <br />more. Therefore, the operator should submit a list of species to <br />be used so we can evaluate whether a two feet depth is indeed <br />adequate. <br />6. A couple of final comments are that some attempt should be made <br />to determine what the composition of the material is below the <br />two feet of cover. If this material is highly saline and this <br />area is going to be irrigated salts could migrate upwards or <br />express downslope. Also, the final slope of the graded area is <br />about 12.5$. This seems kind of steep if the area is going to be <br />flood irrigated. In undisturbed areas it is sometimes possible <br />to flood irrigate this steep of an area, however, the material <br />they will be irrigating is unconsolidated backfill and I suspect <br />the erosion potential will be rather high. You may want to check <br />what method of irrigation will be used and discuss the <br />potential problems prior to approval. <br />This completes my review.
