Long <br />741 Main Street Division Director <br />Springfield, Colorado 81073 <br />RE: Adequacy Review for Baca County Pit Number 8 Conversion of a 110 Permit to 112, Permit <br />Number M•77-485 <br />Dear Mr. Crane: <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology has completed its preliminary adequacy review of the Baca County Pit <br />Number 8 conversion from 110 construction materials permit to a 112 construction materials permit. The <br />application was received on May 18, 2001 and determined to be complete for technical review on June 18, <br />2001. The decision date for this application is September 17, 2001. Please be advised that if you are unable <br />to satisfactorily address the concerns identified in this review prior to the decision date, it will be your <br />responsibility to request an extension of the review period. If there are outstanding issues that have not <br />been adequately addressed prior to the end of the review period, and no extension has been requested, the <br />Division will deny [his application. The following items require further inforntation or clarification <br />.~ Item 9. Paee 2 Application Form Location Information: It appears that the line indicating Quarter <br />Section does not agree with Exhibit A and your maps. Please indicate in a letter which description is <br />correct. It appears that your operation occupies the southwest quarter of Section 8, T. 34 S., R. 48 W. <br />of the 6's P.M. <br />/ Item 14, Pase 3 Application Form Applicant/Operator: The permitting contact and the inspection <br />contact spaces are both left blank. Please indicate in a letter whe :vi!I be fulfilling those t:vo roles :.nd <br />how they may be contacted. <br />6.4.5(21(d) Exhibit E Reclamation Plan: In your item III describing how you plan to control <br />erosion, stockpile the A and B horizon, you use the verb "should" frequently, for example, "Where it <br />is possible the A and B horizons of the soil profile should be removed and stocipiled separntely...". <br />In order to approve your application, we must be assured that you will perform these functions and <br />salvage all of the topsoil. Please eliminate the qualification "tvhere possible", and remove the word <br />should from all sentences and indicate that Baca County will perform these functions. For instance <br />the previous quote from your permit should read "The A and B horizons of the soil profile will be <br />removed and stockpiled separately...". Please make this change, remove the word should and replace <br />it with the word trill throughout the reclamation plan. <br />r <br />
