Boyd
Reclamation Specialist
Dear Michael,
C~
~~~~~~~~
Mph ~ t 1989
~~c~.~~~prro~ ~~°sio
Re: File No. M-78-327
Kauffman Pit
Reference is made to your letter dated March 3, 1989 pertaining
to the Adequacy Items needing further amphification on the above
referenced pit.
The following are our responses:
,/ 1) We would concurr that it is very appropriate to permit this
site by including it as an Amendment to Permit No. M-78-327
and hereby request that the new Regular (112) Mining Operation
be changed to an Amendment.
+{z~I cA~d ~t'~ 2) Our basis of reclamation cost for only five (5) acres of
5~ mar. d«~••~^" disturbance is because reclamation of the area would be done
~L'c~}s d~:~;:~!-'t~' concurrently as extraction is completed, including sloping
and seeding.
s+~~)~}1~ ~~,1,;~3) Two mining phases are to be used. Phase.I is to begin at the
~~_.~ rcf ~~ ~~~. N.W. corner and proceed to the South. Upon completion of Phase
fi~S~~~S'~ ~ I, Phase II will begin at the North end and progress in a South-
erly fashion. All top soil will be stockpiled and placed on the
finished slope areas to a minimum depth of 6".
4) Please disregard the reference to Exhibits D, R, & S since
material from this site will be removed by loader, placed in
trucks, and hauled to the present plant site for processing.
Exhibit T is included on the Mining Plans.
5) Dewatering trenches are to be dug on the North, and West sides
of the pit so that the entire area can be dewatered. Trenches
are dug to bed rock and generally left on a 1'-z:1 back slope.
See the mining plan as to location.
6) The referenced disturbed area were mined many years ago but
material was removed to a depth of approximately 4 to 5 feet,
therefore they have been included in the Mining Area to gain
additional gravel .
7) The drainage outfall ditch was used previously by the Creat
Western Sugar Company as an outfall ditch for settling ponds
to the North of the project site. These ponds are no longer
in use. The ditch is currently carries only storm run off
from Mr. Kauffman's adjacent land and seep water from Boyd
Lake. The ditch is approximately fifteen feet wide at the
top, three foot bottom and an average of 5 foot in depth.
8) The operation will provide you with the augmantation plan
as soon as it has been approved by the State Engineer.
