As in item #2 above, according to the Permit Amendment Pit
B is 58.7 surface acres. Also, during our May 19, 1998, meeting, both Don
McDonald and George Neserke indicated that 2 feet of topsoil is required on the
entire 58.7 acres. If 2 feet of topsoil is placed upon the 58.7 acres approximately
189,400 cubic yards of topsoil would be required.
As described above, according to our review and calculation, there appears to be several
discrepancies in the cost estimate. We recommend that you review the discrepancies
and address them appropriately.
Also, as we discussed both in our recent meeting and recently on the telephone, the
WCHD would not object to your approval of Coors' most recent revision to their permit
when the following has occurred:
1) Coors has submitted a revision to their permit, to your agency, to allow for the
surface water run-on and run-off diversion structures to remain in place.
2) Coors has demonstrated to the Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment and the WCHD that the surface water diversion structures, at the
facility, meet the requirements specified in the Regulations Pertaining to Solid
Waste Disposal Sites and Facilities.
In our recent meeting, Mr. Neserke indicated that both of these items will be addressed
in the very near future. I will contact you when we have received and reviewed both
submittals.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at (970) 353-0635, extension
2232.
Sincerely,
" " V t~Y'
Trevor Jiricek
Supervisor
Environmental Protection Services
tj\1006
cc: Brenda Lujan, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
George Neserke, Coors Energy Company
