,•
-2-
The Division hereby informs prospective builders and the Las Animas County
Planning Department that certain areas affected by the mining activity include
reclamation of contour strip mining operations. These areas of the mine
consist of unconsolidated and uncompacted backfill. The Division would advise
against building in these backfilled areas. However, if building is to be
conducted, it should be done after consultation with a registered professional
engineer.
A map illustrating the areas of the mine which have been backfilled is
available at the Las Animas County Planners Office and the Las Animas County
Assessor's Office.
It should be noted that the backfilled areas are generally on steep slopes and
comprise a small portion of the development. They will not interfere with the
establishment of dwellings on other portions of the lots.
If you have any questions or concerns, written comments should be addressed
to Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215,
Denver, Colorado 80203, no later than ten(10) days after receipt of this
letter. We can also be reached by telephone at (303) 866-3567 and FAX N0.
(303) 866-8106.
Sincerely,
Anthony J. Waldron
Reclamation Specialist
AJW/eke
CERTIFIED MAIL N0.
