sampling will be performed in the West Pit and Section 16 Pit. During nine years of sampling of
the upper and lower Y seam overburden in the East Pit, only one sample had a suspect SAR
value. Approximately seven percent of the overburden samples in the Section 11 Pit had suspect
SAR values; all of which were automatically placed at the bottom of the pit by the dragline.
Only one of 99 sanrples of regraded spoils has had a suspect SAR value. One sample of regraded
spoil is collected for each five acres of reclaimed azea. No evidence of toxic effects to vegetation
on reclaimed areas has been reported to date on the mine site (Findings, 199?). See pages 2.05-9,
2.05-41, 2.05-57, and Section 4a of Exhibit 6 of the Permit and Annual Reclamation Reports for
explanations and additional information.
Impoundments -Rule 4.05.9
Cattle (and wildlife) watering impoundments have been approved (TR-38) on the reclaimed mine
azea. Their design and location were approved by the Division (see Exhibit 7, Hydrology
Information, Item 15, Volume 2C of the Permit). Other impoundments within the permit area are
the approved sediment ponds (see paragraph D above), water treatment basins, and the Taylor
Pump Holding Pond (which existed prior to August 3, 1977).
G. Ground and Surface Water Monitoring -Rule 4.05.13
Information on surface and ground water monitoring is found in Section 4.05.13 of the Permit.
I. The applicant has conducted and will continue to conduct monitoring of ground water (Permit,
page 4.05-10, and Section 10 of Exhibit 7) in a manner approved by the Division [4.05.13(1)].
The ground water monitoring plan is currently as follows (page 4.05-13, Permit):
Three alluvial wells are monitored quarterly. These are well A6 (upgradient on
Goodspring Creek), North Good Spring Well (downgradient on Goodspring Creek) and
Gossard Well No. ] (downgradient at the mouth of Taylor Creek). Analysis of the
36 Revised October 30, 1997
