C-81-099
Dear Karen:
This letter is in response to your letter dated February 10, 1988, to
Bob Sherman. I have talked to Bob several times regarding data to ans-
wer the questions posed in your letter. [de have not found some of the
information to date, but have responded to each of your questions. Re-
sponses follow the outline of your letter.
3. Chapter III - Operations Plan
The Rockcastle Company will perform vegetation sampling this June in
support of requesting bond release on Pits 1 and 2 by June 30, 1988.
Therefore, calculations on the temporary ditches have not been performed.
4. Chapter 4 - Reclamation Plan
The average topsoil redistribution depth at Pit 4 will be 21 inches. The
premining depth of topsoil varied from 6" to 30" according to the operator.
Since some topsoil replacement will proceed contemporaneously with mining,
it is expected that topsoil replacement depths will vary From 15" to 24"
at Pit 4. "Significantly exceed" may have been a poor choice of words
since it does not define an exact depth. However, an average premining
depth of 21" existed at Pit 4 and it is hard to envision locations where
topsoil replacement will not exceed 12". For purposes of an exact answer,
significantly exceed should be interpreted as a minimum topsoil depth at
all Pit 4 locations of 15".
IV Maps
The stockpiles no longer exist at any of the reclaimed areas. Enclosed
are three copies of the revised Mining Plan Map with the stockpile areas
deleted from areas already reclaimed.
V Bonding
Bob Sherman has been trying to locate cross sections he compiled of the
active Pit at Pit 4 and of Pond 4. Unfortunately, during transfer of files
between Steamboat, Wisconsin and Florida, Bob cannot locate leis measurements.
I am traveling to Wisconsin to the headquarters office on March 18 and will
try to locate them at that time.
