BATTLE MOUNTAIN RESOURCES Page 9-J
San Luis Project Technical Specifications
Section 2.10 of these Specifications. Substitute revetments must be approved by the Designer as
described in Section 2.13 of these Specifications.
Upon entering the discharge pond berm, the spillway channel shall transition from a composite
section to a channel with a 30 ft base and 2H:1 V side slopes. The transition shall be completed
at the point of discharge into the pond, with a grouted riprap section extending into the pond to
contain the hydraulic jump. Details of the transition section and the configuration of the
embankments and revetments are shown in the Drawings.
The spillway shall discharge into the existing pond after constituent level:c through the
underdrain system are undetectable or within the discharge regulations. The discharge channel
shall be cut through the west embankment to approximately elevation 8450 ft. The pond shall be
reclaimed by folding in the liner and covering the liner with material excavated for the dischazge
channel. The depth of material on the liner should be approximately 4 ft, covered with 1-ft of
Material Type 3 riprap. The discharge channel shall be lined with Type 9 riprap according
specifications shown on the Drawings. The base on the pond should be sloped to between % and
1 percent toward the west discharge. Prior to folding in the liner, any solids settled in the bottom
of the pond will be tested in accordance with EPA toxicity tests and, if necessary, disposed of in
an approved mazmer. In addition to the riprap requirements specified above, the grouted riprap
spillway channel shall extent into the bottom of the pond a minimum of 14 feet. Tire slope of the
14-ft section shall be between %: and 1 percent, producing subcritical flow and a hydraulic jump.
The side slopes of the 14-ft section should remain at 2H:1V and (laze-out 8 degrees from the
direction of flow, as shown on the Drawings. The upper channel shall extend through the pond
embankment to daylight. The material placed in the dischazge pond beneath the ground riprap
section and the fill embankments extending into the pond shall be compacted to 95 percent of the
maximum dry density as determined by ASTM D 698. The material shall be obtained from cuts
through the pond perimeter berm and shall be in accordance with Section 6 12.2 of these
Specifications. Foundation and embankment dimensions are shown on the Drawings.
9.2 West Pit Culvert
The Contractor shall furnish and install the HDPE corrugated pipe with an in[c~grally formed
smooth water passage, fittings, couplings, rubber gaskets, or hardware suitable for use with the
HDPE pipe as defined by the manufacturer.
N:\DHALLMAN\SANLUIS\SANLUIS.DOC 9-} SIUC Projecr No. 14712
