MAP
(970) 266-5256
UPLAND GRAVEI.
EXHIBIT D
MINING PLAN
06/14/06 01:08P P.002
Two of the residences on the East side of 35 Road were surrounded by peach orchards
which are now being removed. A vacant farm labor house converted to cold storage,
exists along D 1/4 Road approximately 1000 feet East of the end of 35 Road. East of
the site is BLM which contains several electrical transmission lines, Orchard Mesa
Canal No. 2 and a Ute Water 24" Main. South of the site is vacant land comprised of
sparsely vegetated 35 plus acre parcels.
7.) DEPOSIT EXTRACTION:
The gravel depth is variable due to the eroded surface of the deposit which is estimated
to be 28 feet thick at the highest point, The depth of overburden and topsoil on the site
varies from 0 feet to approximately 16 feet thick. Stockpile areas have been designated
for storage of overburden and topsoil until used for reclamation. The underlying Mancos
shale shall be covered with overburden and topsoil within 180 days of being exposed_
Extraction in Unit 1 began the Fall of 2001, at the lowest elevation of the deposit near
the end of 35 Road extension and is proceeding uphill in 30,000 ton units to the
Northeast through Unit 8 to the end of the deposit at a point approximately 1200 feet
East of 35 Road and adjacent to D 1/4 Road. Each unit contains approximately one
acre of affected area to be mined. A natural berm of gravel (Units 9 and 10) separating
the pit from view and buffering existing residences will be left in place until the very last
extraction which is estimated to be in 2010 or later.
A two (2.0) acre stockpile and storage area (180'x350') with scales and a sales office is
located in unit 1 and 2 adjacent to the access from 35 Road 35 and will be left graveled
and un-reclaimed for the life of the pit.
The estimated life of the deposit which contains an estimated 257,000 ton was four (4)
years @ 70,000 annual ton extracted to nine (9) years @ 30,000 annual ton extracted.
The actual production has been approximately 40,000 annual ton extracted. The actual
life of the gravel extraction operation will depend on the demand for the construction
materials, The Denison Pit located Southwest of this site has been in operation since
1984,
Dust from haul roads and mine area are currently being suppressed with water trucks
and/or sprinkling systems as needed with water from the storage pond. Crusher and
screens are fitted with sprinkling systems and supplied by a Ute Water tap.
Erosion control ditches are constructed as needed at the gravel contact line with
Mancos Shale and routed to a water impoundment basin (Part of Unit 1 8 2) to insure
there will be no discharge of storm water or sediment from the site.
Extraction is done with an excavator and loader.
No blasting is proposed and will not be part of the extraction process.
-3-
