`' ~ ~ III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
TRAPPER MINING INC. 999
..~....,
June 15. 1988
Mr. Gregg Squire
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
215 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Gregg:
Subject: Technical Revision TR-41: Revision to Ashmore and Colt pit mining
areas and update of permit renewal PR-2 maps.
This technical revision is submitted to revise Ashmore and Colt pit mining
areas for the 1988 to 1992 term as recently approved by PR-2. In addition,
this revision also makes current the M10 series maps and Map M4 as presented
in PR-2. The maps are revised to reflect upcoming permit term activities as
based on actual December, 1987 locations, not the projected locations as were
used in developing PR-2.
1.0 Ashmore Pit Mining Area.
Revised map M10B, sheet 2 of 4, presents the Ashmore Pit mining area.
Beginning in September, 1988, the pit cuts will be lengthened to the
north to gain increased coal recovery. Increased pit cuts to the north
will continue until the pit reaches the top of the ridge to the east, in
late 1989. As shown on the map, 16.3 acres of mining disturbance will
result from the extension of these mining activities. Note that the
area in which the extensions will occur has had or will have topsoil
stripped in the future based on previously approved topsoil removal
maps. Therefore, there will be no change in total disturbance acres for
the area. This activity will occur on State Lease 206-13.
The Ashmore pit mining area extension occurs in an area currently
permitted as a long term ash disposal location. The proposed change
will have no effect on the disposal operations since just the pit cuts
are being lengthened. The disposal sites will therefore be shifted to
the north 200-400 feet but still well within the approved disposal area.
All permitted disposal criteria will continue to be met.
No modification will be required to the sediment control system in
Johnson Gulch, which controls runoff from this area. As outlined in
Appendix Q, Part VI, the system was designed for "worst case"
disturbance. Since there is no change in total disturbed acres for the
drainage, no modifications will be needed for the system.
Extension of the mining further north will cause a slight modification
in the post mining contour. Permit map M12, Post Mining Contours, has
been revised and is included within this revision package.
P.O. Box 187 Craig, Colorado 81626 (303) 824-4401
