MINING PLAN
i

The purpose of this application is to amend Permit Number M-91-13fi. The
operation that this permit covers was originally named the Magie Gravel Pit, but
has, out of necessity, been renamed the River Road Gravel Pit.
~~ Th~rooerty that is the subject of this amendment consists of 9.3 acres in total
As depicted on the pre-mining map, there is a house and outbuilding near the

1 center of the property. These buildings are extremely dilapidated and will be
demolished and disposed of. The telephone line and electrical power line that
wn on the pre-mining map exclusively serve this property and will be
va~aJ because they will no longer be necessary.
Access to the site for production equipment and transportation of materials will
t

t

1

L
J

size as is depicted on the pre-mining map.
Of the total acreage, 6.3 acres will be affected by the mining operation, and 5.1 d ~ i L Q
acres will actually be mined. As depicted on the mining plan map, ac will ~T'"~
be unaffected and are not included in the permitted area.
~,3 ~.
The area that will be affected is situated adjacent to the south-east corner of nv1(~,
the existing River Road Pit (M-91-136) and will be mined as a continuation of l 1
'that operat{on.
be by using the haul road that has been built for the existing River Road Pit
operation. This haul road exits the site on the north side of the property onto
Mesa County's River Road. ~
~~~
Initial activity at the site will be the removal of the top soil and overburden
from the area to be mined. ~.is_soil will be used to build a berm along the
southern-Dermit boundary that will range from 6 feet to 8 feet high and
approximately 30 feet in width. op soi will be stored in a berm along the
east property boundary and in a stockp 1 we est of the amended permit area along
the southern boundary of the River Road Pit. These locations are depicted on the
mining plan map. The soil that is not used to build berms will be used to
backfill slopes and to plate slopes fora seed bed media.
The current situation of the River Road Pit is that the gravel has been extracted
according to the original mining plan, and the resource is now depleted.
Mining operations for the amended area will commence in the south-east corner of
the original site with the removal of the 30' section that was left as a buffer
between the mining operation and the property line. As this is done, excavation
will continue in a southerly direction throughout the extent of the area to be
mined.
Excavation and processing operations will be conducted on the floor of the pit,
which is approximately 25 feet below the normal ground level.
