As we discussed in our telephone conversation, MCC has requested
authorization from the United States Forest Service (USFS) to drill from pad No. 14-06 (formally 14-
04) on August 22, 2001, and for pads Nos. 15-06 and 15-07, August 23, 2001. The location for No.
14-06 was moved from a previous location closer to the West Flat Iron Road to address concerns that
the USFS has regazding slope stability in the narrow canyon. The nomenclature also changed from pad
No. ] 4-04 to No. 14-06. The letters requesting authorization from the USFS for these pads are
attached as part of this Minor Revision. Copies of the letters were also sent to the BLM.
Borehole pads 15-06 and 15-07 are located on the existing roadways, and because the roadways were
previously surveyed for threatened and endangered and sensitive species and cultural resources (100
feet either side of centerline), additional surveys were not required for these locations. Enclosed for
your review is a map depicting the locations of the drill pads. Also included is a schematic showing
the proposed typical borehole completion. The depths of these holes vary and a table is attached
showing the anticipated depth for each hole.
The proposed drill pads are on USFS surface-owned property and are situated on MCC's Federal Coal
Lease COC X6447 (Box Canyon Lease) and are within the current permit area boundary. The specific
locations have been flagged in the field and are located in Sections 26 and 27, of T.13 S., R. 90 W., 6`s
PM.
The biological and cultural reports from our contractor (Greystone Consultants) indicate that there are
neither threatened, endangered, sensitive species, nor cultural resources present at these pad locations.
These reports were previously submitted to the CDMG in Minor Revision Nos. 273, 275, and 279.
