• caverns. Location of monitoring wells will be approved by EPA
and BLM. Monitoring wells established on a boundary between
adjacent five-yea:r blocks may be designated for monitoring use
for both five-year mining blocks.
After evaluation of data from monitoring wells from a five-year
block, and with EPA/BLM approval, NaTec will plug and abandon
all but one set. All four aquifers at the NaTec-26-EX-2 drill
pad will be utilized as a set of permanent monitoring wells to
cover the first five-year block of cavities. A set (two wells)
containing Dissolution Surface and B-Groove well completions
will be maintained as permanent monitoring wells for each five-
year block from years 6-30.
•
NaTec proposes to eventually establish a line of monitor wells
located on the northeastern boundary of the well field and
monitor ground water of the B-Groove and the interval
immediately overlying the Dissolution Surface for the duration
of the mining project. Monitor wells that are established as
cavities are mined-out will be abandoned as new wells are
established to k~aep up the cavity development. Figure 2
portrays an example of how this sequencing will occur for
illustrative purposes. Location of well field monitoring wells
will be approved by the EPA and BLM. As indicated, the monitor
wells located along the transition facies, which forms the
• northeastern boundary will be developed as mining proceeds and
10
