flows with another clean water pipeline from the 1st Southeast Headgate inflow and apply to the WQCD for an
additional NPDES discharge point for direct discharge to the river.
As mentioned previously we are working with a number of consultants to determine where this inflow originated,
the hydrologic conduit system, the impact of the water inflow on the PHC and whether we can predict similar events
in the future. In addition, we are designing a high capacity (4,000-8,000 gpm) water pumping system to handle
future inflows. This system will also include treatment facilities on the surface to treat the inflow water as it is
pumped from the mine. We will be submitting applications to you in the near future to permit this construction.
We very much appreciate the support we received from your office during the inflow event. If your schedule
allows, we would welcome your visit to West Elk Mine so you can gain a better understanding of how we manage
our water underground and how we intend to manage future inflows.
Please contact us should you have questions.
Sincere)
~~~~~.
Kathleen G.
