None of the following listed fishes occur on the review area, or !n the <br />North Fork of the Gunnison River: <br />• Bonytail chub (Gila eZegana) Federal 6 State Endangered <br />CO Aiver equawfieh (Ptychocheilua Iucius) Federal & State Endangered <br />Humpback chub (Gila cypha) Federal & State Endangered <br />Razorback sucker (Zyreuchea texanus) Federal 6 State Endangered <br />However, the Upper Colorado River Basin, of which the North Fork of the <br />. Gunnison Aiver ie a tributary, dose support populations of these fish. <br />The squawfieh and razorback sucker have been known to occur in the lower <br />Gunnison River. <br />River otters, (Lutra canadenata), State Endangered species, are not <br />known to be present on the review area, however, the North Fork of the <br />Gunnison River ie considered suitable habitat. A population exists in <br />the Gunnison Gorge 20 miles southwest of the proposed lease tract and <br />migration from the Gorge to the proposal area ie possible. <br />Although it ie possible for lynx, (Pelee lynz), State Endangered <br />species, to occur in the region they are not known to be present on the <br />review area. The range of lynx in Colorado is believed to be confined <br />to coniferous forests above 9,000 feet. <br />Grand Mesa Penetemon, (Penetemon arenaerva), Federal category 2 species, <br />is known to occur in the Hawksneet drainage which runs through the <br />review area. It's presence on the review area ie unconfirmed, but <br />possible. This species occurs moat frequently in the aspen and oak <br />stands-between 7200 and 9500 foot elevation levels. <br />The following list of species occur in the region but not on the review <br />area: <br />• Black-Footed Ferret (XUatele nigripea) Endangered <br />Ferruginous Hawk (Buteo regalia) category-2 <br />Long-Billed Curlew (XUmenius americenue) Category-2 <br />Mexican Spotted Owl (Striz occidentaZia Iucide) Proposed <br />Northern Goshawk (ACCipiter gentilis) Category-2 <br />Southwest Willow Flycatcher (Spidomaz traiZii eztamua) Category-1 <br />White-Faced Ibis (PZegadia chihi) Category-2 <br />Whooping Crane (Gros Aarericana) Endangered <br />Adobe Desert Parsley (Lamatium concinnua) Category-2 <br />_ Clay-Loving Buckwheat (Sriogonum pelinophiZ:m) Endangered <br />Spineless Hedgehog Cactus <br />(SChinocereua triglochidiatue var. inermis) Endangered <br />Montrose Penetemon (Penetemon retroraus) Category-2 <br />Uinta Basin Hookleee Cactus (Sclerocactua gZaucus) Threatened <br />Wetherill Milkvetch (AatragaZua vetherillii) Category-2 <br />Category 1 and 2 epeciee are candidates for listing as threatened or <br />endangered under the Endangered Species Act; information is <br />currently not sufficient to support listing. <br />Proposed species are those which have been formally proposed to be <br />listed ae threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act. <br />Proposed epeciee are afforded the same protection ae listed epeciee. <br />H. Cultural Resources <br />A Claee I cultural resources literature review of the project area was <br />conducted by Grand River Institute. The literature review showed that one- <br />third or approximately 680 acres of the proposed lease tract has been <br />previously subjected to a class III cultural resources inventory. <br />• Four historic sites (5GN254, SGN1494, SGN1561, and SGN1562) and one multi- <br />component site (SGN266) have been recorded ae a result of the Class III <br />10 <br />
