Of course, much of the
following information has been previously furnished to you
verbally.
1. NALCO 8873 Flocculant and NALCO 6852 Coagulant are the
trade names of the flocculants used to treat mine water
at the Golden Eagle Mine for the period of January 1
( through March 11, 1968. NALCO 8852 was used in
treating mine water entering Pond 003. NALCO 8852 and
NALCO 8873 were used for treating mine water entering
the Pond 002 system.
2 ~ 3. WFC does not have operating records to show daily
addition of flocculants to the pond systems. WFC
resumed treatment of the 002 pond system with NALCO
8652 on January 12, 1988 after previous attempts with
NALCO 8873 had been unsuccessful. NALCO 8852 was used
until March 8, 1988. The mine water treatment system
was modified entering the Pond 002 system on February
29, 1988. This modification involved utilizing a two
pump treatment system with one pump as a backup. On
February 12, 1988 a system for addition of NALCO 8852
was set up for treating mine water entering Pond 003.
System dosing continued until March 4, 1988 to Pond
003.
The Flocculant injection system is located in the fan
house for 002 ponds. Flocculant was added at the hoist
house system prior to entering Pond 003. (See Figure
1).
At the fan house, flocculant was pumped by direct
