Based on
three discharges during the 90 day period, the frequency of analysis and average quality
or concentration were miscalculated. First it was incorrectly assrttned (For frequency of
analysis) that an observation of "no-discharge" impacted the frequency of analysis.
Secondly a numerical average of all samples was reported, rather than the highest average
during each 30 day period. The revised DMR correctly reports these parameters.
Intermittent rainfall during the period August 1-6, 2002 resulted in a pond discharge
being observed and sampled on August 5, 2002. (The satnple date was initially reported
as August 6, the date the sample was received by the laboratory). The discharge does not
exceed permit limitations and no application of Alternative Limitations is requested.
Only a trace of rainfall was noted at the Trinidad Lake field office on August 4, 2002;
Rainfall of 0.6" was recorded at the mine site.
Rainfall events at the Mine of 1.2" ou September 9 and 1.6" on September 18, 2002 were
sampled on September 10 and September 19, 2002 respectively. The September 10
sample was submitted for laboratory analysis as required by pertnit. Results indicated an
excedence of both Total Iron and Total Suspended Solid. The September 19 sample was
analyzed for field parameters only. The Mine is requesting the application of Alternate
Limitations (for events less than or equal to the 10-year, 24-hour precipitation event) for
Total Iron and Total Suspended Solids for the September 10 sample event.
