Ms. Erica Crosby, Division of Minerals and Geology
March 23, 2005
Page 14 ~~
32. The applicant provided a list of plants to be planted upon reclamation of the site. Plead 4lgtet e s°>tu R c E s, i r c
the location of these tree plantings. !n addition, please clarify if the plant schedule listed on
Exhibit 5 of 7 is per acre, per pond, or total for the site.
Many of the proposed plantings will be planted at the beginning of each mining phase, to help screen
mining operations. The Mining Plan Map shows the locations of the trees and shrubs to be planted
during the mining operation. The Reclamation Plan Map shows the locations of the trees and shrubs
to be planted during reclamation. Because the 1'=300' scale is relatively small for this site, our
application also includes a Mining Landscape Plan {refer to sheets 4 and 5} that show details of the
areas to be planted and a Reclamation Landscape Plan (refer to sheet 7) for your use. The plant
schedules are on the associated landscape plans. The plant schedules shown on the maps are the
total for the site.
33. On page 17 of the application, it states that the proposed seed mix and application rates in
pounds of pure live seed per acre are described on the following pages. The application did
not provide this IisS and is only noted on Exhibit 5 of 7. Please provide the proposed seed
mixture as state in the application.
We thought that the maps were part of the permit application. Following are the proposed seed
mixes. We have modified the mixes and obtained NCRS' verbal approval.
Common Name Scientific Name Variety 100% % in Mix Total Lbs PLS
PLS1Acre er acre
Western Wheatgrass Pascopyrum Arriba, 16.0 20 3.2
smithii Barton
Sideoats Grama Bouteioua Vaughn, 9.0 20 2.0
Curti endula Butte
Blue Grama Bouteloua Covington, 3.0 25 0.8
racillis Hachita
Green Needle rass Sti a viridufa Lodom 10.0 15 1.5
Switchgrass Panicum 4.5 20 0.9
vir atum
little Bluestem Schizachryrium Cimarron, 7.0 15 1.0
sco arium Cam er
'total 100% 10.7
Forts that will also be added to the mix:
Common Name Scientific Variety 100%
~
Name PLSfAcre
I
Pu le Prairie Clover 0.5
4-Win Saltbush 0.5
Prairie coneflower Ratibida 0.5
columnifera
Scarlet globemallow Sphaeralcea 0.5
coccinea
Tall one-sided Penstemon 0.5
' penstemon virgatus var.
asa ra i
