Jim Daniels November 29, 1976
Utah International Inc.
P. 0. Box 187
C~aioe CD. 8]625
Dear Kr. Daniels:
This constitutes a preliminary report of our investigation of
the Utah International Inc. Lands Project in F4offat County, Colorado.
The inventory was carried out by Paul R. Killians and Carol Legard
beizreen the 11th and the 14th of OctoSer, 1976, The area surveyed
Has c~.posed of so~>Q 1120 acres including portions of Sections 4, 5,
7. S. and 9, TSn, R91w (U.S.G,S. Round Bottom and Castor Gulch 7~s'
Quadrangles).
One archacologita] site and three isolated finds were recorded
in the course of Lhe survey. Site 5~iF415 fs located in the fill's of
the SN's of the SE~: of the SEh of Sec [ion 5, TSn, R41w, MAffat County,
Colorado (U.S.G.S. Round bottom 7~' Quadrangle). The site consists
of a small lithic scatter made up of approximately 20 flakes and one
projectile point fraar.Rnt. because of the small size and lack of
zpparenL dpth of the site, no further work is reconnended.
The lsolated Fir.ds included one projectile point fragment, one
biface, and a group of three flakes. A sample of the flakes aL 5~;F475
and a;1 other artifacts were collected and are presently stored at the
Lzboratory of Public Archaeology, Colorado State University,
Nithin the area surv,:yed, we did riot find any significant archaeo-
looica7 resource;. Site 51sF475 does nit offer any further information,
Therefore, Fre conclude that if industrial activities are undertaY.en in
the area, they xiil not endenger any scientifically or culturally valuable
an~hropolon±cal ?ocaliLies.
Sincere?y,
1^ ,
^4 ~~1 ~L ~ ~,
1 ~.~ ~V t, W~'V C.~
\
Calvin I;.
