' 9) Where adverse characteristics of the surface, not feasibly remedied by artificial measures,
would seriously inhibit plant growth, planting will be delayed or provided on substitute
~ acres to be determined at that time based on agreement with the Division or Board.
10) Where appropriate (e.g., areas exhibiting sufficient soil moisture content) willows shall
be planted. Willow cuttings will be obtained from adjacent areas so that ecotypically-
adapted stock is used on the site. Stems will be cut in 12- to 18-inch lengths and 1/2 to
1 1/2 inch diameter. A straight cut will be made at the top beneath branches, and a
diagonal cut will be made at the bottom. Stems must be cut and planted (sprigged) the
same day and the bottom kept moist. A hole will be punched into the soil with a
planting bar and a minimum of 3/4 of the stem placed into the soil using a 1-2 foot
spacing. The soil will then be tamped around the cutting. Spring planting is
recommended.
' Revegetation Monitoring:
Species cover (percent foliar cover of the ground) and shrub density (number individuals
' per unit area) will be measured each year to assess reclamation success. Point intercepts
and belt transects along a transect line will be used to obtain these data. The reclaimed
' area will be compared to an adjacent, unmined area, and plant cover and shrub density
used as the criteria to assess revegetation success.
,~ Buildings and Structures:
' No buildings or structures are currently located within, or near, the gravel mining area.
' Signs and Markers:
1) A sign will be posted at the entrance to the gravel mine site, and will be visible from the
access road, showing the operator's name; a statement that a reclamation permit has been
issued for the operation by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board; and the permit
number.
2) The boundaries of the affected area will be clearly delineated by placement of monuments
or other markers.

i rim 13
