• 2.0 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
2.1 Summary
The objective of this project for the proposed Yoast mine was
to determine geologic conditions that could affect the design,
construction and maintenance of slightly less than five miles of
haul road, and of a sedimentation pond. Another objective was to
comment on general geologic conditions at eight topsoil stockpile
areas.
The haul road originates at Routt County Road 27 at an
elevation of about 6552 feet and terminates at the mine area at an
elevation of about 7248 feet for a total elevation difference of
about 696 feet.
Slightly more than the first three miles of the haul road
• alignment traverses moderately eroded topography formed by
weathering and erosion of bedrock that is primarily shale with
lesser amounts of sandstone. Throughout most of this reach the
alignment is composed of long straight segments tangent to large
radius curves.
The balance of the alignment (B segment) follows the main
drainage course that flows northward from the mine area, and
includes mostly short-radius curves and shorter straight reaches
than is the case with the A road. The last 0.5 mile of the
alignment includes a number of short-radius curves and relatively
short, straight tangential reaches between them. From about Sta.
20+00 to its terminus the alignment traverses competent sandstone
bedrock and its weathering products along with relatively minor
• amounts of shale.
5
