^~
°~''` ~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII III ~

March i0, 1961
tir. William Giordano
J. E. Alessi b Aseociatea, Ise.
814 Main St.
Canon City, Colorado 812!2
RE: Carestia Pit
Pile: JB1-36
Dear :Ir. Giordano:
::~
,,,ib
I have completed my adequacy review of the mining and reclamation permit
application for the above captioned operation. I have several questions
and convents that I will outline on an exhibit-by-exhibit basis below. Any
ehibita not uantioned are considered adequate at this tine.
First of all, I sill need the proofs of the two sequential caeeks of publication
acid notification of adjacent landouaors before Board consideration of the
application. The proof of publication should eventually be nn affidavit, but
for nrna n copy of the first or second publication crlll do. The certified
mail return receipts (or copies thereof) should be sent to our Division as
proof of notification of adjacent landowners.
E,~iIBIT A
SJhy is the ncreage given as 6.3 in this exhibit when [he permit is to be for
.2 acres of affected land?
EXHIBIT B
~. Any stockpiled topsoil (both old and new) should be stabilized by eloping
at no more thaw 2:1 (if poeaible), and planting with a perennial grnse
cover crop such as Western whnatgraea (broadcast rate of 6.0 lbs. PLS/acre).
x2. What is the timetable of miningY
,/3. What is the composition of the material underlying the sand and gravel to
~~ be mined?
}~4. Evan though the soil is the area is somewhat gravelly, there may be some
/~ possibility of sediment moving into Coal Creek. Some sediment control
etructurea, such as berme, should be instituted between the operation nod
Coal Creek to prevent this.
