In Phase 6 & 7 Connell will mine and then backfill. As Phases 6 and 7 aze mined, Connell will
closely follow with backfilling of overburden, capping with topsoil, and vegetating to minimize
the amount disturbance at any one time. The backfilled azeas will closely match the existing
grades.
Processing & Asphalt Batch Plant Site/Equiproent
The processing equipment, asphalt batch plant, and other equipment aze portable and will be
removed from the site following the completion of the project.
Gradine
Grading will be done to provide stabilized shorelines azound the reservoir. All backfilling will
be done using native overburden and topsoil. There aze no known toxic materials in the proposed
backfill material.
All grading will be done to prevent erosion. Final grading will be done immediately after
topsoiling has been completed. Backfilling will be completed in phases after mining is
completed.
All slopes left by the mining operation will be no greater than 3H:1V from five feet above and
ten feet below the water elevation. All other slopes will be no greater than 2H:1 V.
Tousoiline
Stripped topsoil will be stockpiled out of the floodway to reduce the risk of inhibiting the flow
of a flood. In addition, the stockpiles will be aligned with the natural flow of the river.
The topsoil will stockpiled for the reclamation process. Stockpiles which remain in place longer
than one growing season will be seeded with a fast growing cover to minimize erosion. Handling
of topsoil will be minimized by efficient sequencing of the mining.
Reveeetation
The reclamation plan will revegetate all disturbed azeas with appropriate seed mixes to minimize
erosion and reestablish natural ten•ain. Reseeding of the property will be done after an acceptable
seedbed is prepazed. Grass seed will be planted with a drill equipped with depth bands and press
wheels or may be broadcast depending on the terrain and discretion of the reclamation supervisor
for the operator. The grass seed mix will included drought resistant vazieties and will be planted
in either eazly spring or fall to insure germination.
Grasses planted in eazly spring should be warm season cover crops. The permanent grass seed
should then be drilled into the cover crop in eazly fall without additional tillage. Grasses planted
in the eazly fall should be permanent grasses and covered with straw mulch at a rate of 4,000 lbs.
7
