Weber
Colorado Springs, CO 80903
kE: Erosion control measures on Crystal Pit, Pikes Peek
'I'ol L koad.
bear Mr. Marler:
On DPCember 12, 19?9, the Teller County Planning Commission
approved the Conditional Use Permit for the Crystal Pit with
the condition that soil stabilization measures be applied [o
slopes of 2:1 or sleeper. As indicated in the copy of the
letter [o the Colorado Division of Mined Land Reclamation,
this condition to the Teller County approval has been
included 1n the permit.
Teller County did not specify exactly what kind of measures
would be applied. I have recommended to the Public Works
Department that they use straw mulch or wood chips produced
on site from the existing vegetation through the use of e
chipper. Personally, I have never been impressed by straw
to control erosion on steep elopes and believe that wood
chips are often more effective, especially when combined
with leaving a rough, rilled topography along the contour.
Hopefully, this will satisfy your concern regarding the
erosion potential of the decomposed granite on the site.
Thank you .•
Respectfully,
Mark A.
