Affected lands are identical to the
surface disturbed area, which is approximately 140.6 acres. Both azeas are outlined as shown on Map
Exhibit C -AFFECTED LANDS MAP. The permit area is part of a much larger parcel owned by
Dr. Warren Jacobsen. The site is located on an elevated terrace deposit of sand and gravel, which
varies in elevation from 6475 on the west to 6325 on the east. The level area is approximately 140
feet above and west of the Colorado River and mining will be confined to the upper part of this
deposit. Mining will be at least 50 feet above the 100-yeaz flood plain for both streams. Please refer
to the mining timetable in this section for the estimated acreage of each area associated with mining.
CURRENT CONDITIONS AND LAND USE
Map Exhibit C -AFFECTED LANDS MAP, shows the outline of the affected lands/permit
area, cuttent topography, hydrologic features of the property and the ownership for all property
owners within 200 feet of the affected land. A Soils Map is contained in the Soils and Vegetation
section of this report. The soils map is a reprint from the published soil report for Eagle County.
The land is presently used for agricuiturai purposes, i.e., pasture/hayfield, and winter pasture for the
landowners. The landowner currently uses ditch water from Deep Creek to irrigate the pasture.
The surrounding lands aze used for ranching, the residence of the landowner, Dr. Jacobsen, and the
BLM land to the west is used for primarily low priority wildlife habitat in the sparsely vegetated
slopes above Deep Creek and the Colorado River.
The pictures on the following pages show how the pasture appeared in November of 1994.
9
